This blog post is part of BlogchatterA2Z challenge 2021 for the theme Un-travel
Initially ‘Turtle Got Wings’ was all about Travel.. My Solo-Travel journeys.. Travel to new places.. Travel to know people, their customs, traditions, enjoying the cities, villages, the local food.. Since I got the hang of my First successful solo-trip, I would plan my holidays.. ‘Budget’ (the utmost thing one need, to travel physically) for my holidays a year in advance. Planning is the most exhilarating part of going for a holiday if you ask me..
Going!! Now I am forgetting all these feeling of planning, packing, being inside the plane! But that’s not what I am talking about today. So there came a day (not long back of course, I swear I won’t take the name!) when travel was restricted in dreams and memories or only for the big-shots with secured reservoirs to spare scoops after scoops when and where needed. And there came the time when my travel stories needed a hiatus till its relevance would make sense.
But I wanted to go on, think more, let my fingers be more active.. But I didn’t have anything else to talk about. I would only see others cooking relishes whereas I would only order the lady of the house to make the day’s special. But right after the worldwide lockdown, the lady of the house declared a full lockdown for any special request and even my small little ‘extraordinary’ world was at turmoil. This bulging tummy doesn’t understand lockdown, social-distancing.. it only understands being full with variant, tasty, nutrient meals!!
All my travel food memories would come back to me.. appams wanted to take place of the regular rotis, Rice would remind those coconut dal and Kerala style egg curry, prawns would mock me for the Indonesian or Cambodian sea-food fried rice and even those dishes I never tried would wake me up in the middle of the night and I felt years’ of starvation (not that I such experience)!!
Finally I realised the importance of a kitchen and utensils in the house, I started getting myself flexible with ladles, strainers, hot smoking kadais etc. And while searching for recipes on Youtube, I knew what all changes I could do to make them healthy and more nutritional as per my need.. There…
Not all recipes shared on the world wide web really works, not all secret tricks are shared and not all of them suits your taste.. Why can’t I share my learning, modifications, experiences with the world then? Good food has grand power, it connects the world, it brings memory back, it helps to re-live good time and it makes good time. Then let food do all the talking..
But then, there was no passion and patience to place the good food at front, waiting to taste while keep clicking insta-worthy snaps, the kitchen has a no-place-to-keep stock for crockery, utensils but none worthy to display to the high resolution world of fanatics! Online store will only allow essential products to choose.. but ‘magnetic’ ceramic plates and bowls are also part of essentials for some!! But.. If decision is made, those worthless old scratched thalis, catoris have to be my models of the time of need then! So with all these fracas embarrassments, my ‘Healthy Food Blog’ took off and still on air!!
