The last stretch of the journey and to the capital city of Kerala. A mix of both modern improvisation and typical South Indian tradition are residing together in peace here. Though usually tourists prefer Kovalam (a beach town about 15 km from Trivandrum) in place of the main city while planning a holiday in #Kerala, but as I had been to Kovalam before and have been to many beach towns at this visit, I wanted to see the Tiruvananthapuram city; and undoubtedly the city has its own charm.

Travel guide to Varkala- My Solo Travel plan for Kerala on a budget- #GodsOwnCountry
A small town by the sea going up from plain land to the cliff, and then again the land is smoothing with the sea level; Varkala is the place to enjoy beach, get tanned under the sun, gorge on sea food, fresh fruit juice, South Indian delight and relax as long as one stays here. Or may be planning body detoxification by Yoga, Ayurvedic treatment and luxurious Kerala Spa.

Munroe Island as the name describes is an island, 24 km away from Kollam city. For me it’s a small simple village, where the people are very religious and tradition bound and the entire place is wrapped in thick greenery and fresh oxygen.

A day dedicated to legs stretched, fingers crossed behind the neck, back relaxed at 45 degree and doing nothing, but still transporting from one place to the other in a caterpillar speed. Dreamy isn’t it??
From Alleppy to Kollam there are daily ferry services are available, twice a day. (10 am & 6 pm) better to take the morning one as the deliberate long journey is taken to enjoy the long stretched signature back water of #Kerala. The 8 hours journey is surely very slow paced but it’s like floating amidst the verdant. Grayish water everywhere and green carpet land bordering this marsh land. It’s very difficult to describe the entire journey as it only contains experience from heart. Take any upper deck seat (as no pre-reservation required) and have some snacks and water in case you are hungry and even you aren’t, munching is fun in this day long journey.

Marari is small fishermen’s village to the south of Kerala. When it’s all about experiencing the minimal luxury, the local Kerala flavour, crumpling on a cradle tied between two coconut trees, for the entire day with a book, only green and blue to accompany and some distant chit chat; then Marari is one option for you. No line of extravagant restaurants by the beach to serve fine culinary, only the home-stays or resorts to serve lavish kerala meals and fried munchies to gorge on during the day on the beach and get tanned. Marari is this short and crisp at description and the best place to lay on your belly and relax.
