Even from Sittong, this place is about 2:30 hours’ driving distance away.. so quite well placed in terms of convenience.

BUT.. there are a few ifs and buts for this place..

Lepchajagat.. I am still contemplating whether to go straight to the point or give you some furbelow layers of veiling description to compel you to come to the place… you want the truth, do you?

Let me start with the good points.. Lepchajagat is very very close to Darjeeling, just about 40 minutes from Darjeeling and the place is famous for its Pinewoods..  the pine forest is very very beautiful. I mean, of course, the long old pine trees, with thick green leaves.. the woods look misty from a distance, then all clear from inside.. it’s beautiful.

Even from Sittong, this place is about 2:30 hours’ driving distance away.. so quite well placed in terms of convenience.

BUT.. there are a few ifs and buts for this place..

If you have been to other parts of North Bengal.. like Rishyap, Lamahata; you have seen a great Pine forest. But saying this, so close to Darjeeling, Lepchajagat has all the charm to experience pine forest in such a short vicinity. So for me, a day trip from Darjeeling to Lepchajagat is more than enough..

What to see:

Pine Forest:

The perimeter of Lepchajagat is quite small, from the Taxi stand the Pine forest is about 5 minute walk. You can spend about 15-20 minutes here and it’s really beautiful. The view of the mountains on the other side of the road is equally scenic, especially on a sunny day, which I love.

Jorpokhri:

A little distance away from Lepchajagat, this is a beautiful park (entrance fees: Rs 10.00 per person). Spend some time here, on clear weather you get a great view of the Kanchanjangha. Also, the way to the park is n between the pine forest, and the green is way too enticing, you just can’t forget the colour..Spend some time here, there is also a tourist lodge here, someone who enjoys complete seclusion from the outer world, should surely seek refuge for a night here..

There is also a viewpoint here, to get a view of the mountain peak. I was so disheartened, that I didn’t venture out more. However.. however, you get a good glimpse of the mountain even from the main area of this mountain village.

Also, at night you get a glinting view of Darjeeling which is again quite exalting.. at least for me it was because my comfort was, “tomorrow  I will be there!!” Lepchajagat just couldn’t knock my head.. you know what I mean?

That’s all I have to say.. I mean write on Lepchajagat!! A very short post.. but the next stop is the ultimate, the must-go in Bengal.. And I am telling you from now.. there will be long and more than one post..

Be back soon..
