What to see in Sihanoukville/ Things to do in Sihanoukville, Cambodia
What to do in Sihanoukville:
Luckily for a distraction even momentarily maybe, there are a couple of activities you may go for while in Sihanoukville.

Island tour:
Quite the same as the tour I went on in Koh Kong. But it’s completely an island tour, no trekking to a hilltop. This tour takes you to an island; you get plenty of time to enjoy a secluded beach with very few people or maybe hardly any other people which can be a good escape from the constant hammering going on in the city. It’s a full-day tour and tourists get ample time to enjoy the water, fishing, snorkeling if preferred. They cook hot lunch at the beach. Minimum 5-6 people are required for this tour. It costs USD 20.00 per person, BUT there is a good thing about this tour; if one wants, it can be done on a private basis, as in a boat can be hired exclusively for a couple which may cost about 50-60 USD in total.
Koh Rong & Koh Rong Samloem:
While I am complaining so much about the construction work at Sihanoukville, tourists are still coming here.. SO after a night, they have an option to escape to the islands close by. Koh Rong and Koh Rong Samloem Islands are the two easily available and popular most for this. You may consider any one or both of them if you want, Or one can go for a day excursion to any of these islands like me.

There are speed Boats available from 8 am in the morning till 4 pm after every one hour. The return ticket costs about USD 22.00 per person with hotel pick up. It takes about 45 minutes to reach Koh Rong Island with a stop at Koh Rong Samloem in between. NOW, this boat ride is really choppy, and by which I mean the boat tumbles like a flimsy bowl from end to end on the sea and you really need a strong stomach for this, otherwise hold your head in between your palms and keep a paper bag ready with you.
Both Koh Rong and Koh Rong Samloem have plenty of places for accommodation (hostels, local Khmer resorts). So in case you want to go to both the islands, maybe start with Koh Rong and then go to Koh Rong Samloem and then back to Sihanoukville for your further journey.

I went to Koh Rong, there are plenty of hostels, resorts, and good seafood restaurants all across the place. One more thing to mention, as everyone is fleeing to the island after Sihanoukville, you will find both these islands to be quite crowded and a little (you may say a lot too) ‘touristy’, but there are plenty of beaches for everyone. Paradise beach, 4k beach are a few of them and are liked by most. Whereas for the party lovers, Police beach is the place.
The water and sand in Koh Rong are really opulent, the finely ground pale cold sand, sparkling turquoise gemstone water, cold wind to keep you calm, and some icy fruit shake to enjoy the beach- oh that’s divine. Crowd, bustling, so many people, though I said all these.. still, I will say don’t cast this place off from your list, do give a visit to one of these islands.
** There is a zip line tour available at Koh Rong at the ‘High point rope park’– this tour happens in groups (this high point park is on the way to the Police beach)
That’s all I could gather in Sihanoukville.. time to move on.. will be back soon with my next stop.. Till then Stay Safe.. and Enjoy the Festive Season!!
It’s been my wish to visit Cambodia! Your solo trip here makes me want to do it myself someday!
