Healthy Oats Halwa

Hope you read about my brave-heart move of turning lustful Indian dessert into harmless undefiled beauty. Then I took my taste-hunt little more ahead.. may be more than the ‘little more’.. I tried this halwa with Oats!! Yesss!!

I agree that I have this extraterrestrial fascination for Oats.. I keep making smoothies with oats, then eat porridge camouflaged in some exotic flavours, there are lot of already ‘tried and tasted’, possible recipes I have experimented with oats (yet to post), but Halwa? Come on? What’s going on with me?? If you tried the other recipe last week, then I only have to say this to you.. Trust me for another time.. I don’t bluff when it’s about food (or either).

SO what Ingredients do You need:
  • Oats- 1 cup
  • Milk- about 2-3 cups
  • Jaggery/ Jaggery powder/ coconut sugar
  • Ghee
  • Dry fruits- peanuts, cashew, almond, raisins
  • Cardamom- 1-2
  • (I didn’t add banana in this Halwa)
Process: Let’s get this Stirring…
  • Take a pan, heat it nice and well.. Then add 1 teaspoon of Ghee (this is for flavour), sauté the dry fruits and keep them aside. (I let the nuts become slightly brown and then take them off the pan)
  • In that same ghee add the oats, and keep stirring the oats until the oats are turning light brown (don’t burn the oats, it has to be slight light brown). This light brown colour adds the nutty flavour in the Halwa.
  • Then add the jaggery and mix it well with the oats. Once the jaggery comes in contact with heat, it starts melting, hence keeping the heat low, gently yet a bit quickly mix it with the oats.
  • Once done add the milk and cardamom. Let it come to a boil, and keep stirring for 2-3 minutes or until you are happy with the consistency you want.
  • Then let it cool a bit, you may also keep it in the freeze, let it get chilled and then have it with the fried nuts. Warm, normal temperature or chilled.. all will be super yummilicious..

At times I am so thankful to my food cravings, my sensory system gives me one or few ingredients and the saliva sends me the taste I should be foraging. And accordingly I decide what different food for the day I wish to eat, then the rest is an open book to you.. That makes me realise, gradually I am giving all my secrets to you!! But whom are you telling anyway!!

DO try this recipe and ping me in the comment section..
